The IEEE Transactions on Information Technology in Biomedicine (TITB) is positioned to publish high quality application papers that reflect global information technology advances in medicine and biology and will further address the implementation and management of the broad spectrum of health care innovations arising from these developments world-wide.

The goal of TITB is to report on the latest developments of how information technology is utilized to harness medical, biological, and health care programs. Topics to be covered in the Transaction focus on a diverse range of applications.

TITB audience who would be most benefited by the Journal include health informatics, biomedical and clinical engineers, physicians and surgeons, health physicists, bioinformaticists, and the biomedical researchers, students, educators, and members of the basic science community.

IEEE Transactions on Information Technology in Biomedicine is published bimonthly by The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.

Scope

T-ITB publishes basic and applied papers dealing with subjects within the wide spectrum of information technology applications in health, healthcare and biomedicine. Papers must contain original information technology content, defined as development, theoretical analysis, critical evaluation/validation of a new system, and/or model pertinent to healthcare, medicine or biology. Articles describing ethical and legal issues, including safety and security, of implemented systems, and educational issues will also be considered, provided that they represent innovations impacting the application of information technology in biomedicine. Articles that contain original and significant results but do not meet this criterion would not be suitable for publication in T-ITB. In order to guarantee quality control as mandated per IEEE policy on standards for publications, the review and editorial handling of manuscripts is an integral part of the paper submission process.

IEEE Position Statement on NIH Public Access Policy

In line with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Public Access Policy, IEEE acknowledges that the broad and open dissemination of NIH-funded research results may benefit not only future science and engineering initiatives, but may also serve the greater interests of society as a whole. A carefully considered and practical application of this principle is essential so as to ensure the scholarly value of the original work and the value added to the work throughout the editing and publishing processes.

IEEE's position with respect to public access to NIH-funded work published in IEEE journals is as follows:

  • IEEE authors may voluntarily submit their funded work to PubMed Central (PMC) in the 12th month of the print publication
  • IEEE will supply authors of funded work with the final versions of their papers, which authors may then submit directly to PMC

IEEE already makes its content available to the general public worldwide through its content delivery web site, IEEE Xplore, and remains committed to the idea of convenient, timely and affordable access to scholarly and professional publications.
